Introduction

Geospatial technologies have witnessed rapid advancement over the past few years with the future looking even more promising and full of opportunities. The need of the hour is for a platform which can bring together stakeholders to share ideas and information and thus accelerate this process. Geospatial Media and Communications (formerly known as GIS Development) is dedicated to raising the profile and expanding the horizons of the geospatial industry worldwide. As part of its efforts to bridge the divide between various sections connected to geospatial technology in the Middle East, Geospatial Media and Communications is pleased to announce that the Middle East Geospatial Forum (formerly Map Middle East) will be held in Dubai, UAE from 2nd to 4th February, 2014.

Since its inception in 2005, the Map Middle East conference has evolved into an international platform that facilitates in building networks for the geospatial community in the Middle East and also explores various uncharted aspects of this technology by congregating geospatial technology experts from across various domains and different parts of the region. After being successfully held in the United Arab Emirates till the year 2010, Map Middle East 2011 proved to be a milestone for us in our endeavour to make the conference a truly regional initiative as we took it to the emerging and opportunity laden market of Qatar. The conference was subsequently held in Qatar with tremendous response from local, regional and international organisations for three successive years until 2013.

The 2014 Middle East Geospatial Forum will mark another chapter in the golden history of the conference as we bring the event back to where it all began, Dubai. With the downturn long over and the entire world’s eyes set on the region yet again, the United Arab Emirates is set to regain its position as the hub of geospatial activities in the near future. The 2014 event will take our engagement with the stakeholders to the next level and build on our objective of propagating and promoting the significant usage of geospatial technology as a tool that serves varied domains. The conference will be based on a carefully designed plan with plenary sessions that feature an array of celebrated speakers from around the globe, who will bring along with them a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Middle East geospatial community. The conference will also have an exhibition area where companies from all over the region will showcase some of the latest developments taking place in the field. In all, the conference will offer a delectable blend of valued information with ample networking opportunity.
